No one can tell me how old I was when I was adopted. Everyone has a different age for me to fit their story!

Well I can say that I was young enough not to remember when I was handed down to my paternal uncle and aunt since they could not have biological children. Since my biological father was never home and kind of abandoned us with my Grandmother for a long time, I was eligible one to be passed on.

Although I was not the only child, I had a brother too but perhaps I was young enough not to remember much and as I have been told and heard that my paternal aunt and uncle wanted a girl, so I was the lucky one!

My biological mother or I must say now my aunt worked and apparently me and my bother were looked after by Grand Mother. My Biological father came and went as he pleased at the time. Nevertheless I had and have a large paternal and maternal family.

The stories told about my birth are interesting too, my father was not home, born in an evening in my grandmother house. I had two other uncles at home at the time, my father's cousins. When they heard the news of my birth, they ran to an astrologer to ask for recommendation on the newly born name. The street astrologer told them, it should have alphabets M and CH in her name. So My grandmother opened the Holy Book Quran, closed her eyes and placed her finger to see what verse she comes across to name me accordingly. And as persisted by my uncles, in order to keep those alphabets in my name, She named me after Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) wife and aunt "Maimoona". This covered the alphabet M and thus CH was left so she added "Chand" at the end. So I had a formal name "Maimoona Chand" The word Chand means moon in my native language. So this is the story of me coming into this world and being named!
